The 1939 "Royal Danish" pattern was an "inspired by" sterling silver pattern, reminiscent of the famous royal silverware pattern made by Georg Jensen.
The New York Times wrote: "Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but Georg Jensen did not recognize it as such when, in 1939, the International Silver Company introduced Royal Danish, a best seller. The pattern has a shape so nearly similar to the Jensen Acorn that its advertising must state ''Made in U.S.A.'''... And the hallmarks on earlier runs of this pattern included "USA" as does the hallmark on this ring.
To get a 'balanced' ring with all hallmarks intact in smaller sizes this ring was made from a 4 1/4" demitasse spoon.
Brief History of the International Silver Company
The International Silver Company was incorporated in 1898 by a number of independent New England Silversmiths whose family backgrounds began with the earliest American settlers. International became not only renown for the quality of its fine silver,  it became the world's largest manufacturer of silverware.
    The History of Spoon Rings
Spoon rings are believed to have originated in England in the 1600's. The story is that servants that couldn't afford a 'real' wedding ring would steal a silver spoon from their master and have it crafted into a ring. For a poor person a stolen spoon was to best, and easiest, way to give the woman they loved a beautiful ring.
As the practice spread more and more silverware 'went missing' but since spoons were usually monogrammed, and newlyweds on staff were known to all, it wasn't hard to find the culprit and what was left of the spoon. Many arrests were made from the 17th to the 19th century with offenses ranging from "stealing a silver spoon" to "larceny by a servant." Criminal records allowed historians to determine when spoon rings began.
By the 19th century Spoon Ring popularity waned but then it took off again during the 60's and 70's. This time though it was as much about fashion as it was about love. It still works both ways though and when you combine the two...
